LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

Every year we ask for feedback on legislative priorities for NW Michigan at the Housing Summit. Please use this form to give us any ideas and/or feedback on legislative priorities to help move the needle on year-round housing in our region. We have five policy pillars identified for our Advocacy Policy:

To “Deliver a collective voice of influence from rural northwest Michigan to identify, influence, and advocate for state policies that support diverse housing options."

  1. Develop a new and innovative tax structure for property owners seeking to provide long-term (greater than one month) rental housing for the workforce.

  2. Amend the MSHDA Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) to better address rural housing needs.

  3. Ensure that impacts of short-term rentals on year-round housing stock are mitigated.

  4. Ensure the creation of new and preservation of existing revenue streams that can be used for housing initiatives.

  5. Ensure that rural housing and related needs are considered part of the structure of state government.
